Insanity By Cameron Jace
Thank you Xpresso Book Tours for sending me this book in exchange of an honest review
Synopsis:
Hannibal meets Alice in Wonderland. After accidentally killing everyone in her class, Alice Wonder is now a patient in the Radcliffe Lunatic Asylum. No one doubts her insanity. Only a hookah-smoking professor believes otherwise; that he can prove her sanity by decoding Lewis Carroll’s paintings, photographs, and find Wonderland’s real whereabouts. Professor Caterpillar persuades the asylum that Alice can save lives and catch the wonderland monsters now reincarnated in modern day criminals. In order to do so, Alice leads a double life: an Oxford university student by day, a mad girl in an asylum by night. The line between sanity and insanity thins when she meets Jack Diamond, an arrogant college student who believes that nonsense is an actual science.
My review:
OHMYGOD this is by far the best Alice in wonderland retelling I've read, this book is ultimately madness and insanity which makes it extremely captivating and fun to read.
"Mad". My favorite answer. I think I should copyright it.
The plot in this book is really intriguing, in every page I'm dying to know what's next therefore it took me two sittings to finish it. Though I would have to say some parts of this book is predictable, but is still a delighting read. Despite this book is a urban fantasy // paranormal, the world building is exceptionally complex. As I'm not a reader who's usually fascinated by the world the author set up, I found myself really liking this one. The writing style in this book is utterly amazing, extremely easy to adjust to and the author's writing is beautiful.
I wonder if it's possible to forget about someone but still experience a feeling toward them. It's as if I have written his name on the inner walls of my heart. As if I'm strained with his soul. Whatever we shared is buried somewhere in the abyss of my mind.
Our protagonist Alice is downright crazy in the first few chapters, as I found myself extremely dazzled by her. It's like you know she's crazy but you can't help being compelled by her. Which I'm proud to say I really like this protagonist, from times to times she's humorous and funny but most of all I like how's she really different and unique from others protagonist as she is crazy and insane . I guess she's one one of my favourite protagonist of 2015. As for the other characters Professor Caterpillar and Jack Diamond (I don't think it is a love triangle) I love them too. As much as I like the protagonist herself, these characters definitely enhance and makes the book a lot more fun then it is.
I guess that's all I have to say for this book, it's really fast paced and easy to get into highly recommend if your in a reading slump.

Shatter Me Trilogy By Tahereh Mafi:
Goodreads Synopsis:
I have a curse
I have a gift
I am a monster
I'm more than human
My touch is lethal
My touch is power
I am their weapon
I will fight back
Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.
The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.
My review:
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
Holy crap, how can I start reviewing this trilogy.
Read the first book on 2013 loved it.
Read the second one on 2013, got me into a reading slump.
Tried re-reading the 2 books again on 2014 absolutely loved it.
Read the third when it released took me a night to read it.
THIS SERIES IS MY GULITY PLEASURE :D It's actually better going into the book not knowing much about it, but here’s a brief review to those who wants to know is it worth the read.
At the first book, we’re introduced to our protagonist Juliette Ferrars she has the ability to kill with her touch so basically if you touch her you die. The Reestablishment (the government) locked her up in a cage for freaking 264 days without any interaction with any human. OH MY GOD HOW PATHETIC IS THAT?
Juliette started off as one of the most annoying and stubborn characters I’ve ever read about. I was deeply and extremely irritate with her. Luckily through the entire trilogy we could see great character development in her. The romance took a great deal in the book apart from the dystopian, which was also the reason why I've enjoyed reading this a lot. The relationship between Juliette and NOT-TELLING-YOU-WHO-HE-IS is very heart warming and unexpected. It’s the kind of love you crave for more pages after pages. Most importantly the writing style is so unique and intriguing, whenever Juliette has a thought she believes she's forbidden to think about the lines are crossed out. Which I was extremely captivated by the idea of that.
For those who finished the first book and doesn't have a clear idea do you like it or not read in this order you should be reading in this order:
SHATTER ME (DON’T KNOW HOW TO FEEL ABOUT IT, BUT YOU WONT WANT TO STOP READING IT)
DESTROY ME (NOVELLA)
UNRAVEL ME (HARD TO GET IN AT FIRST BUT PLEASEE PUSH PAST IT)
FRACTURE ME (NOVELLA)
IGNITE ME (HOLY CRAP YOU LOVE IT AND YOU WONT WANT TO STOP READING IT_
As you see the novellas are very very very important, the first time read the shatter me trilogy I hated it because I haven’t read the novellas. So the novellas does the trilogy a great justice. Overall I recommend the trilogy to everyone especially those who want to read something new.

The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepherd
Goodreads Synopsis:
Sixteen-year-old Juliet Moreau has built a life for herself in London—working as a maid, attending church on Sundays, and trying not to think about the scandal that ruined her life. After all, no one ever proved the rumors about her father's gruesome experiments. But when she learns he is alive and continuing his work on a remote tropical island, she is determined to find out if the accusations are true.
Accompanied by her father's handsome young assistant, Montgomery, and an enigmatic castaway, Edward—both of whom she is deeply drawn to—Juliet travels to the island, only to discover the depths of her father's madness: He has experimented on animals so that they resemble, speak, and behave as humans. And worse, one of the creatures has turned violent and is killing the island's inhabitants. Torn between horror and scientific curiosity, Juliet knows she must end her father's dangerous experiments and escape her jungle prison before it's too late. Yet as the island falls into chaos, she discovers the extent of her father's genius—and madness—in her own blood.
Inspired by H. G. Wells's classic The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Madman's Daughter is a dark and breathless Gothic thriller about the secrets we'll do anything to know and the truths we'll go to any lengths to protect.
My review:
This book is a retelling of H.G Wells' “The Island of Dr. Moreau (taking place in the gilded ages), I find this story extremely unique and different, it was definitely a dark twisted survival read with an extensive great amount of good atmosphere and psychological.
The author did an amazing job at creating a strong imagery of the island that was set in the middle of nowhere, completely inhabited by bone chilling creatures and human hybrids. I was perfectly capable to visualise the atmosphere and the setting inside my head, as if I was the protagonist herself. As well as the petrifying sights that haunts me, I felt that I was able to hear the bloodcurdling noises surrounding the island. Allowing my reading experience to be evocative and extremely real. As for the plot, I thought the author did an tremendous god job on it. Considering the fact that I have yet to read the original story, I did not see the unexpected twists coming that repetitively kept me breathless and stunned, unable to predict the author’s next motivation in the book.
Nonetheless, my favourite aspect in the book is the characters, I thought that the author did an prodigious job on building a multi-dimensional protagonist and astonishing amazing side characters. The protagonist Juliet, is an incredibly strong heroine, that I cannot help but being captivated by her peculiar personality. Regardless to the terrible conditions and situations she faces, and no matter how fractured Juliet is. She never felt sorry for herself, which is the one main reason that I love very much about her. The complexity and an invulnerable character she is, maintaining to be a headstrong character and logical in times. Despite her strength, Juliet has an extreme low self-esteem. She sees herself as being different, bizarre and weird, given the fact that this book took place in the gilded ages; knowing the fact that she’s the madmen’s daughter and all the dangerous knowledge and wit she posses. She believes that no man would ever choose her as a wife and unloveable.
Apart from the amazing protagonist, she has two other love interest; Montgomery and Edward, whom both is captivating in their own way with the labyrinthine characteristics they both hold and their sweet but rough personality. I very much like both of the character a lot and enjoyed the love triangle as it served a purpose. However I thought that both characters are extremely unreliable and unpredictable, I felt a sense of untrustworthy, due to the fact they both has to much deception laid beneath their exterior.
As for the Juliet’s father Dr. Henri Moreau, a rumoured madman of the society and a extremely terrifying character whom is indeed idiosyncratic. Despite all he is also a genius and a loving father. Moreover I thought that the secondary characters are amazing and all, the author did an amazing job letting me define a particular personality for each of the character. Unfortunate with me, with all the greatness the author posses in her mind. The villains in this book were amazing well-written, so immensity conflict that I cannot help but being as confused as the protagonist, to where her loyalties should lay and whom to trust.
Overall I thought that The Madman’s Daughter is an exhilarating, fun and captivating read, that included all the important aspects of a historical thriller story should be. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys dark twisted survival storied and amazing book in general.

Chase The Dark By Annette Marie
Goodreads Synopsis:
Piper Griffiths wants one thing in life: To become a Consul, a keeper of the peace between humans and daemons. There are precisely three obstacles in her way.
The first is Lyre. Incubus. Hotter than hell and with a wicked streak to match. His greatest mission in life is to get Piper — plus every other female in a ten mile radius — into bed, and when not actively working on that, he’s annoying the crap out of her.
The second is Ash. Draconian. Powerful. Dangerous. Scarier than most people's worst nightmares. He knows too much and reveals nothing. Also, disturbingly attractive — and scary. Did she mention scary?
The third is the Sahar Stone. Top secret magical weapon of mass destruction. Previously hidden in her Consulate until thieves broke in, went on a murder spree, and disappeared with the weapon.
And they left Piper to take the fall for their crimes.
Now she’s on the run, her dreams of becoming a Consul shattered and every daemon in the city gunning to kill her for something she didn’t actually steal. She’s dead on her own, but there’s no one she can trust to help her—no one except two entirely untrustworthy daemons.
...See problems one and two.
My review:
This book is fun, dangerous, action-packed, page-turner and anything a good urban fantasy should be. The word building in this book is unique and alluring. Seventy years ago, daemons put an end to humanity’s third world war to prevent the destruction of their favorite playground, Earth. So now humans are to live a degraded life, where the consul are to remain the peace between humans and daemons. Our main female lead Piper Griffiths is the daughter of the head consul, for her entire life she only wants one thing; to become a Consul. However as usual shit happens, with the help of two sexy daemons she has to save the world (well you know what happens)
I really did like the world the author builded up, it was really different and idiosyncratic in paranormal // urban fantasy standards, the author did not just created another world with daemons but one that has so much more extent. However it would be so much better if all the details are not forced together all at once, the author could have taken more time describing the amazing world she came up with rather then putting it all together all at once creating a immense confusion.
The other thing I really enjoy about the book is the characters, meanwhile Piper our main female lead is really naïve and from times to times unreasonably stubborn and impulsive. But she definitely is a likeable protagonist whom is a good fighter and unlike typical paranormal romances protagonists Piper has a certain depth that held in her that captivated me into reading in her perspective. As for the other two other male leads Lyre and Ash, both are incredibly sexy and swoonworthy male leads. They are incredible, while Lyre is hot and fierce Ash is all powerful and dangerous, the author has successfully compluse me into falling in love with both of them. I won't say there is a absoulte love triangle happening despite the synopsis, as it is clear to Piper when it is just "lust" or real "love" happening. Which I extremely appreciate the different path the author took
I really would like to say more of this book as it was an extremely entertaining read, in some ways this book reminded me of sweet evil but for the most part it is a lot more different, :D highly recommend if you are looking for GREAT paranormal romances :) SERIOUSLY THIS BOOK DESERVE SO MUCH MORE RECOGNITION!

The Immortal Rules By Julie Kagawa
Goodreads Synopsis:
Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a walled-in city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten. Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them—the vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself dies and becomes one of the monsters.
Forced to flee her city, Allie must pass for human as she joins a ragged group of pilgrims seeking a legend—a place that might have a cure for the disease that killed off most of civilization and created the rabids, the bloodthirsty creatures who threaten human and vampire alike. And soon Allie will have to decide what and who is worth dying for… again.
My review:
FIRST OFF I LOVE JULIE KAGAWA, SHE'S LITERALLY THE QUEEN OF THE PARANORMAL WORLD. OH MY GOD THIS BOOK IS GOOD REALLY GOOD, as usual all her books the iron fey in particular captures my heart. Okay this book revolves around a girl Allison's survival story, her change from being a human turning to a vampire (okay my description is a bit lame but trust me this book is so worth it)
I have to make this clear. I DO NOT LIKE vampires. I was so afraid of picking up a dystopian vampire novel after reading the coldest girl on coldtown (yeah I did not like that book at all) but the immortal rules just blew my mind, it was so freaking kickass good.
The world building was spectacular, I was immediately captivated by the complexity of it.
The plot was spot on, there were parts that was kind of boring but THE GOOD was wayyy more then the bad.
The characters, AHHH I love them. The author makes you feel what you're suppose to feel about the characters love and hate. However the romance in this book is not heavy, which is a nice thing as it does not take up most of the story as it focuses a lot in the plot aspect.
This book is amazing <3 I totally recommend this book to anyone even if you hate vampires like I do.
